• Austin's homegrown Culinary Academy of Austin (6020-B Dillard Circle, 451-5743, www.culinaryacademyofaustin.com) celebrates 10 years in business with a free public open house and Iron Chef-style competition between chefs from the academy and visiting chefs from Brussels, Belgium. Friday, July 10, 5-10pm.

• The Martinez family of legendary landmark Austin restaurant Matt's Famous El Rancho (2613 S. Lamar, 462-9333, www.mattselrancho.com) invites folks to help them celebrate 57 successful years in business and the debut of the new dining patio. Saturday, July 11, all day.

• The Austin wine and restaurant communities are rallying around popular local wine maven Michael McGovern to help defray the costs of his recent work loss and hospitalization when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The party at Olivia (2043 S. Lamar) will include food, wine, and a superb silent auction. Please drop by to spend some money, and be sure to park in the nearby Office Depot lot at Oltorf and South Lamar when you do. Sunday, July 12, 6:30pm until it's over.

• Both of Downtown Austin's fine French restaurants are hosting Bastille Day celebrations. Aquarelle (606 Rio Grande, 479-8117, www.aquarellerestaurant.com) invites guests to its second annual Rosé Soiree to enjoy eight different Rosés and some French-inspired street food items for $6 per glass or plate with live music. At Chez Nous (510 Neches, 473-2413, www.cheznousaustin.com), a special à la carte menu will be offered in honor of the revolution. Tuesday, July 14, 5-9pm (Aquarelle) and 6-10:30pm (Chez Nous).

• The Long Center for the Performing Arts presents the first in its lecture series Faces of the Americas/Rostros de las Américas, where international coffee expert Néstor Osorio will discuss "sustainability and the global coffee economy, biodiversity and other environmental initiatives undertaken by coffee growers worldwide," and coffee farmer Cuauhtemoc Apan will speak about his family's coffee microplantation and coffee museum in the Mexican state of Veracruz. The evening will begin with a reception and coffee tasting. It's free and open to the public, but seating is limited, and reservations are suggested at www.gahcc.org/llilas. Tuesday, July 14, 6pm.
