Flat Track Update
Dealing in with the Hustlers, and getting ready for some Dirty South derby
By Richard Whittaker, 1:02PM, Sun. Apr. 26, 2009
As any flat track fan knows, the big news in derby is the trademark battle that Womens Flat Track Derby Association President/ Hotrod Honey Crackerjack is fighting. To find out about the on-going legal scrimmage between one skater and Frito-Lay, pick up the April 24 issue of the Chronicle (now on news stands), or read it here.
As for the future, there's fund-raising ahead: If you're feeling lucky today, Sunday April 26, the Hustlers are running a poker night at the Jackalope (404 E. Sixth) from 3pm, prizes courtesy of local vendors. If you don't trust your ability to hold on to your shirt, then wait until May 9, when the Honky Tonk Heartbreakers hold a kickball tournament at Rosewood Park (sign up here)
On the touring side, on April 11 the Heartbreakers took out the Carolina Bootleggers 79-72. But seven days later the Hell Marys continued their tough-luck 2009 with a knife-edge 106-108 loss to Houston's 2008 season runners-up, the Psych Ward Sirens.
Of course, that's all prelude to the big bout on May 3: The Texecutioners host the Atlanta Rollergirls (tickets available now.)
