Oscar memories and an in memoriam for early March
By Monica Riese, 12:41PM, Mon. Mar. 3, 2014
Our hearts are simultaneously heavy and uplifted over this weekend's news.
• Matthew Crump, a member of the South by Southwest Gaming team and organizer of the inaugural SXSW Gaming Awards, passed away suddenly yesterday of a heart attack. SXSW Interactive Director Hugh Forrest posted a note to the SX blog yesterday, including fond memories of Crump and the announcement that the awards show "will go on as planned and will function as a celebration of his life."
• Gravity reigned at last night's 86th annual Academy Awards show, collecting seven statuettes, but 12 Years a Slave ultimately snagged Best Picture. Meanwhile, Austin leading man Matthew McConaughey took home the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his work in Dallas Buyers Club – one of three for that film. McConaughey had a huge 2013, with starring roles in Mud, Dallas Buyers Club, and The Wolf of Wall Street. All right.
• Andrew Takano is at it again. We've posted about this photographer's time-lapse masterpieces before, and he just posted his latest this morning on Reddit. Our city's skyline has never looked better.
