Silvia Sandoval has done it again. Sandoval, founder of Rainbow Night, a safe and regularly scheduled San Marcos LGBTQ event, says SMTX Pride started as just an idea for a Saturday San Marcos event when the mayor called her about a speech.
“It’s gotten bigger and bigger as we got more people along,” Sandoval says. Indeed. The successful planning of San Marcos Pride means it now covers three days. “It’s been a long process, and I am grateful for the help.
“Everything is free to the public,” she adds. “We had to get a lot of permits, insurance, and fees, but we got sponsors to cover that.”
The town's first Pride event, starting at Friday, Sept. 5, 8am and ending late Sunday, Sept. 7, features everything from a drag show and fundraiser Friday to a speech from Mayor Daniel Guerrero Saturday, to tubing and same-sex marriage ceremonies.
Make plans now, Bobcats, allies, and supportive Austin friends, to hit this colorful event in early September at The Marc in San Marcos.
