Where the Girls Go/ATX: Three-Day Weekend Edition

Your guide to finding the grrrls and bois of ATX all weekend long

My phone predicts thunderstorms, but my calendar says Memorial Day – the three-day weekend responsible for the unofficial kickoff of summer. So who's going to let a little rain get in the way of a long weekend of bands, babes, bikinis, and birthdays?

No one, except maybe some cats and the Wicked Witch of the West, but otherwise, let's get this party started!

Friday: Fill up on queergrass tonight at in.gredients with queer bluegrass band (see what they did there?), Brand New Key. The band has taken up a weekly residency for May, and this week they're joined by Hot Tub Cousins.

Suggestion: Sip some beer, hear some songs, and start the weekend off right.

Saturday: Get dreamy tonight with Raw Paw as they release this year's zine. A plethora of bands, live paintings, and a roaming photo booth are just some of the ways they're keeping things trippy in honor of their Dreamz issue. Mixtape included.

Suggestion: "Prepare to Get Strange!" I couldn't have said it better myself.

Sunday: Celebrate GirlFriend's birthday, wedding-style. Lesbian Wedding, that is. The daytime dance party that promises outdoor lounging, indoor dancing with DJ Boi Toi, and mimosas flowing. Not to mention Lizzy Carol Queeraoke and free wedding cake.

Suggestion: Stay late, and eat cake!

Side note: Sunday will be the First Splash of the season – that annual Lake Travis summer party put on by local businesses to say thanks to the LGBT community. Kelly Kline, Murrah Noble, DJ Bang!, Mouthfeel, and more take over Hippie Hollow. Just be warned, there may be more Speedos to meet the eye than bikinis.

Till next week, bbs! And remember, you're invited to come party with us next Thursday at Cheer Up Charlie's.
