Where the Girls Go/ATX: The Comedown Weekend

A helpful guide to find the G-grrrls about town in the ATX this weekend

As Austin embraces her comedown from the high that was SXSW we’re taking a mellower route this weekend. But don’t let the word mellow fool you, we’re still chock-full of places to go, things to do, and grrrls to meet.

FRIDAY: Will you be able to contain yourself at this happy hour of lezbionic proportions? Yup, the ladies behind the monthly Jodie Foster Invasion have set their sights on Container Bar. And while their hetero bar invasions normally take place on Thursdays, they’ve made a special exception for this week.

Suggestion: They’ve started a rumor that the ladies of BedPost Confessions will be in attendance. So keep your eyes peeled and the drinks flowing.

SATURDAY: Release your queerer side this Saturday, coincidentally, the last day for artists to donate a piece to 2014's ArtErotica. It's one of Austin's biggest and naughtiest fundraisers for AIDS Services of Austin, and they want to auction off your art. Drop a piece off – or just come to appreciate the artists – at Jerry's Artarama. As if that weren't enticing enough, they've got free beer and wine to boot.

Suggestion: Tell your friends, especially the artists.

SUNDAY: Quitting cold turkey is not for the faint of heart, so today get your five-hour music fix at Skylark Lounge. The former (and sweetly renovated) space that held queer dive bar Bernadette's will be hosting Girls With Guitars. Four local ladies play 30-minute sets, just like the SX days of yore.

Suggestion: It's a full-day event, get there early, bring the $5 and some extra paper to tip the musicians, and remember, just like in the Bernadette's days, it's BYOA.

Want more satisfaction? Check out the calendar. And remember, beautifuls, you can find me here next week. Same time, same place.
