Greg Saunier VS. Evil: A Convo With Greg from Deerhoof
In honor of their SXSW appearances, we resurrect a lost interview.

Gay Place favorites Deerhoof, one of the most singular rock bands today, are playing 6 times this SXSW. I will probably check them out at the Polyvinyl Showcase, which is free with RSVP. Last year, I interviewed founding member and drummer Greg Saunier. For various reasons, the interview remained lost, until now.
In the early morning, on the first day of their Deerhoof Vs. Evil Tour, Greg was in jovial, giggly spirits, clearly excited to get their tour started. From an EconoLodge in Eugene, Oregon we spoke of Emo's, inspirations, and Kurt Cobain, amongst other things. Some of it was just too juicy to leave to transcription, so I went with audio snippets. Make sure to start at the top of the page and please excuse the occasionally crappy sound. Google Voice, while convenient, isn't perfect.
