So what's a politically activated queer to do on the weekend of October 9-11? No, we're not talking about the Marfa Open House (although the gays will be representin' there too), the correct answer is to get your little hiney to Washington D.C. for the Equality March.
Join the Impact Austin is currently holding meetings every Monday, 7pm to organize their contingent for the October rally. They meet in varying locations across town; so if you want in send a friendly email to [email protected]. Even if you can't end up leaving ATX for various reasons(including financial – self included!) you can attend the meetings to help prepare and get the word out.
These things are about visibility (ahem Million Man March), and about bodies in space, and so the more there are, the stronger the statement. The nice thing about this march/rally is that it is not solely concerned with marriage but with all markers of equality from healthcare to housing to changing the quality of life for GLBT youth. That alone is worth a great big cheer.
So get on your denim and sniff the shit out of those magic markers, 'cos we're going on a trippy-poo!
