Don't miss the Comp Plan boat
By Wells Dunbar, 10:31AM, Thu. Sep. 16, 2010
No City Council meeting today, but they look to fix that with a mammoth meeting next Thursday. Not too much on the civic agenda at all actually, aside from some Diez y Seis celebrations, but there is one city-related announcement popping off this morning …
As we enter yet another new phase in developing the Comprehensive Plan, there's an occasion this morning to mark it:
Mayor, Council Members and special guest are “Takin’ It to the Streets”Is it too much to hope for a Doobie Brother as the special guest? What better way to get the kids involved in the planning process than parlaying their semi-ironic love of yacht rock into attention! Free boat shoes for everyone!Who: Mayor, Council Members and a surprise guest
What: A call to action for residents to participate in the final phase of the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan; will include live music, sample blueprints of what Austin could look like in the future and information for residents to get involved.
Where: Intersection of 2nd St. and Colorado St. on the northwest corner
When: Sept. 16, 11-11:30 a.m.
Why: The City of Austin is creating a new comprehensive plan, looking ahead to 30 years of growth and change. Community input is an important factor to the planning process. There are four imagined scenarios and maps for alternate futures which residents can view and provide feedback during nine community forums taking place in September and October.
