Noriega Concession

Statement from Democrat congratulates Cornyn

Democratic challenger Rick Noriega congratulated Sen. John Cornyn from Houston tonight on successfully defending his incumbency:

"I want to congratulate John Cornyn and his supporters on a hard fought campaign. We ran a good campaign and I am proud of our efforts. From the beginning, we knew it would be an uphill battle. We didn't have as much money as our opponent but I think we forced him to work for every vote.

"I can say that my belief in the decency and spirit of Texans has never been greater. We grow great people in this state. I've said over and over again during this campaign that Texas's greatest resource is her people. And to those of you who have worked on my behalf, who have given me an encouraging word, who have kept me in your prayers, I can't open up my heart big enough to show my thanks. I'll never forget your commitment to improving the lives of all Texans. I'm going to continue fighting for what I believe in and serving my state and country."

With 71% of precincts reporting, Cornyn had 55% of the vote, Noriega 43%.
