WTF? Brooks & Dunn? Seriously?
Song by Bush-lovers close out Democratic convention
By Lee Nichols, 10:25PM, Thu. Aug. 28, 2008
Are my ears deceiving me? The recorded song to close out Barack Obama's Democratic National Convention speech tonight was "Only in America" performed by Brooks & Dunn. That would be the same country duo that backed George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004. That would be the same song that Bush often used at his campaign events in 2004.
Okay, a scan of the Internet turns up an article from an Australian newspaper saying that the tune was "was penned by a Democrat songwriter for a shamelessly Republican band."
Still … yeesh. Shades of "Born in the USA" and Ronald Reagan.
