Gun (Rights) Fight in Williamson County

HD-52 Republican run-off race gets negative over Second Amendment claims

While the Republican candidates running to replace Rep. Mike Krusee in Williamson County had promised to stay positive, pot-shots are flying over who is more gun-friendly. Local ADA Dee Hobbs is claiming that the self-appointed voice of local agriculture, Bryan Daniel, is "maliciously misrepresenting" him in a campaign mailer by claiming the Texas State Rifle Association PAC has called him "hostile to 2nd Amendment issues." Hobbs says this a baseless smear, and calls Daniel's decision to go negative "unfortunate."

Daniel's flier refers to a "voter's guide" on the TSRA website, but the url is for a blank page. The flier says this info was accessed on March 25, but the TSRA primary election results and run-off information page simply gives both Daniel and Hobbs an 'A' rating. Hobbs has also sent out a letter from the TSRA, dated March 19, confirming this A rating.

Calling it a "dirty campaign trick," Hobbs bemoans the fact that, since he's not been the recipient of all that Big Agribusiness PAC money swelling Daniel's war chest, he may have trouble fighting this off. Because, of course, there's no negativity about noting that 90% of your opponents money comes from out-of-county.
