Mr. Smarty Pants Knows

Mr. Smarty Pants Knows
The King of Greece in 1920 died from an infected monkey bite.

Sept. 23, 1998 will mark the 10th anniversary of the "Mr. Smarty Pants Knows" column. Thanks to all you readers and honorary Smarty Pants out there who have sent in factoids -- it's been a great trip.

Alexander Graham Bell first proposed the photophone, which permitted sending voices with light.

James Doohan, who played Montgomery Scott in Star Trek, lost the middle finger on his right hand while leading his men ashore on D-Day. The only episode where this is noticeable is "The Trouble With Tribbles," where Scotty lugs in an armful of the furry creatures.

Rattlesnakes make an "s" pattern right before they're going to strike.
