Who better to host a competitive eating contest than Pepto-Bismol? The planets have certainly aligned on this one as America's own Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, the No. 1-ranked competitive eater in the world according to the International Federation of Competitive Eating, will take on 30 brave locals who fear not the mighty Chestnut or the inevitable pain-inducing brain freeze. Chestnut is in the middle of his hot-dog-eating reign, as he took home his fourth consecutive Mustard Belt at this year's Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest. The ice cream overindulgence is part of the seasonally appropriate Austin Ice Cream Festival, where aspiring eaters over the age of 18 can sign up for the contest (first come, first served) upon entering the fest. $10 per brave contestant. Sat., Aug. 14, 10am-7pm. Waterloo Park. www.austinicecreamfestival.com.
