Onward to Greece; and Mexico passes the Chivas

Mia Hamm had a goal and two assists as the U.S. women beat China 3-1 on Sunday in the final warm-up before the Athens Olympics. Abby Wambach had a goal and an assist. All the U.S. games in the Olympics are being shown live on MSNBC and CNBC. The first-round games are as follows: Vs. Greece, Wednesday, Aug. 11, 9:30am, MSNBC; Vs. Brazil, Saturday, Aug. 14, 10am, CNBC; Vs. Australia, Tuesday, Aug. 17, 10am, MSNBC.

MLS announced a new expansion team for next season: Chivas USA, run by the owner of the popular Mexican League team Chivas of Guadalajara. Chivas USA will be based in Los Angeles, at the same home stadium as the L.A. Galaxy.

Champions League 2004-2005 is already under way; a number of the big teams – Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool, Juventus, Monaco, Rangers, among others – open play on Tuesday-Wednesday, Aug. 10-11.
