'SXSW Presents'
'Bike Like U Mean It'
Fri., Nov. 25, 2005

KLRU, The Austin Chronicle, and South by Southwest have teamed up for SXSW Presents, an independent film series airing Fridays at 10pm on Channel 18 (Time Warner Cable Channel 9). Hosted and co-produced by SXSW Film producer Matt Dentler, the second season of the series runs through Dec. 2. This week's installment is Susan Kirr and Rusty Martin's "Bike Like U Mean It," which, when it screened at the festival in 2002, the Chronicle's Mark Fagan called a "thorough, even touching, study of Austin's vibrant bicycle community. ... [It] covers the entire cycling scene, including the successful Yellow Bike Project, APD's attempted crackdown on Critical Mass, Amy Babich's incessant, anti-car letter-writing campaign, and the inherent hazards of sharing the road with cars." This short film will likely succeed in making viewers question their transportation choices and consider the environmental and personal consequences thereof.
