American Friends Service Committee
The AFSC and the Coalition for Justice and Dignity in Austin have brought the fight against the Minutemen to Austin. On Nov. 3, City Council will hear the Coalition's proposed resolution for the council to publicly denounce border vigilante groups. Through Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera (So Close to the Border), the AFSC leads four delegations a year to border cities, where American citizens meet with maquiladoras workers. Casa Marianella
Founded by the Austin Interfaith Task Force for Central America in 1986 as a shelter primarily for Salvadoran refugees, Casa Marianella has now opened a second facility, Posada Esperanza, to assist Austin's homeless immigrant population. www.casamarianella.org.
