Offenders
Died in Custody (Grand Theft Auto) Did you ever have a friend that was more punk rock than anyone else? Not a guy that dressed like a poseur, or put on the tough-guy act. A regular guy that would put on a Legionnaires Disease Band single and joyfully declare that the A-side was the greatest rock song ever and the B-side was utter shit, while everyone else in the room thought he'd just played the same song twice. The Offenders were made for that kid. No Dead Kennedys irony, no Black Flag "TV Party" comic relief, just a quickly passed-around hardcore memo that reads only "life is shit." At one particular Club Foot show they did in Austin, the balance of chaos and control was so precise that from the balcony, the pit never ceased thrashing for a second during the entire performance, yet the plastic trash can in the center of the dance floor never once tipped over. Died In Custody contains the band's entire Endless Struggle LP, the classic "I Hate Myself"/"Bad Times" 45, an entire album's worth of 1983 demos, two live cuts from their debut Raul's show, plus a MRR radio interview. Given all that, it's doubtful you'll make it through this entire CD without something in your house getting broken. (Saturday, March 16, Emo's, 1am)
