Dear Editor,
Just another research/study of gentrification in Austin that excludes the racist history of Native Americans and Mexicans and the taking of their land. ["
Public Notice: 'Uprooted'," News, Sept. 20.] It doesn't mention the root causes of gentrification and displacement which is capitalism, racism, and classism. It also doesn't mention the neighborhood that was gentrified the most which was Central East Austin. I remember when Palm School and the surrounding area was about 95% Mexican-American and the rest were poor whites. This country's economic system only benefits the wealthy, therefore, mega-landlords, housing investors, and developers are able to continue profiting by causing housing costs to rise!
