The Texas Homeless Network presents the Face the Homeless Film Fest, Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Alamo Ritz, 320 E. Sixth. The program includes the Texas premiere of Kicking It, a documentary about the 2006 Homeless World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa. That film is 3-5pm ($25); the full event is 8:30am-5pm ($75). Among those in attendance: a player with the Entourage Austin Street Soccer team who's been selected for the national team that's going to Australia for the 2008 HWC in December.

St. Edward's women (17-3 last season) are ranked 23rd in the NCAA Division II preseason rankings. They start their season today with a scrimmage against Southwestern: Thursday, Aug. 28, 5pm. The Hilltopper men start their regular season Sunday, Aug. 31, 1pm against Regis. Both teams compete in the tough Heartland Conference, along with national powers St. Mary's and Incarnate Word of San Antonio.

Below: more home teams: Longhorns, Stoke City, U.S. Men and Women, MLS in CONCACAF.

Hurray for the home teams. 1) The U.S. Women lifted the Olympic gold medal for the third time in four Olympics. 2) The U.S. Men got a very tough 1-0 win at Guatemala in their World Cup qualifier. 3) Stoke City got their first-ever win in the English Premier League, a back-and-forth 3-2 thriller where the winning goal came deep in extra time on the last touch of the game. 4) The UT Longhorns opened their regular season with a thumping 4-0 home win over Samford. Most notable stat: two goals and an assist from senior defender Stephanie Logterman. If they can continue to get that kind of production out of their back line, watch out. Also scoring were freshmen Courtney Goodson and Amanda Lisberger. The Horns are on the road this Thursday and Sunday, at Kentucky and Louisville.

Both MLS teams dropped the opening leg of their CONCACAF Champions' League preliminary series Tuesday night. New England lost to Joe Public FC, 2-1, in Port of Spain, Trinidad; Chivas USA lost to Tauro FC, 2-0, in Panama City. The return legs will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, 8pm & 10pm respectively, shown live on FSC.
