Austin Aztex tryouts continue this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, March 15-16, 10am each day at St. Edward's, 3001 S. Congress. Players should arrive at 9:30am Saturday; fans are invited to come out and watch, as well. The Aztex web site reports that 108 players showed up at the first weekend tryouts.
A road win on Tuesday put Aztex affiliate Stoke City back into second place in the English second division, at least temporarily.
Liverpool became the fourth English team in the European Champions League final eight. A week after Arsenal became the first English team ever to win in Milan, the Reds duplicated the feat in the same stadium, rather easily handling Italian champs Inter Milan, 3-0 on total goals. Semifinals start April 1.
A series of huge upsets on the weekend left Portsmouth as the lone Premier League team in the semifinals of the English FA Cup. Portsmouth won 1-0 at mighty Manchester United in the quarterfinals, while second division Barnsley and Cardiff knocked out the premiership's Chelsea and Middlesbrough, respectively. Second division West Brom rounds out the semifinal lineup.
