Demon Deacons, Red Devils Champs as 2007 Comes to a Close

Wake Forest won the NCAA Men's Div. I championship on Sunday, coming from a goal down at halftime to beat Ohio State, 2-1. It was the first finals appearance for either team.

European player of the year Kaká had a goal and two assists to lead AC Milan to the Club World Cup title on Sunday in Japan, beating Argentina's Boca Juniors, 4-2.

Tottenham, Everton, Chelsea, and Arsenal advanced to the Carling Cup semifinals this week. ... And with that, the 2007 football schedule draws pretty much to a close.

The English FA named Fabio Capello to be the new coach of the England national team last week. The Italian has won major trophies everywhere he's coached – AC Milan, Roma, Juventus, Real Madrid – but he'll have a long, hard road with England, who recently failed to qualify for next summer's Euro championships, and don't even have a meaningful game until qualifying begins for the 2010 World Cup.
