The Austin Lightning will be fighting to extend their rain-shortened season this Saturday, in their final scheduled game of the 2007 campaign. A win over the rival DFW Tornados would greatly enhance the chances that the PDL will reschedule a rained-out game against El Paso. July 21, 7:30pm, at Southwest Williamson Co. Regional Park, on Sam Bass Road, north of 1431 in Cedar Park.
The Houston Dynamo set an MLS record with their seventh straight shutout on Sunday, and moved into first place in the west, as the league heads into its all-star break.
The U.S. bowed out of the Under-20 World Cup on Sunday, upset by Austria, 2-1 in extra time. The final is this Sunday: Austria or Czech Republic against Argentina or Chile.
Brazil trounced Argentina, 3-0 in the Copa América final. In a dramatic role reversal, the Brazilians' efficient organization completely smothered the more creative Argentine playmakers.
The L.A. Galaxy takes on Chelsea in an exhibition match Saturday (7:30pm, ESPN), though He Who Shall Remain Unnamed will likely miss the game after aggravating his ankle injury on the long plane trip from England. Hmm, doesn't bode well for his playing durability, does it?
