One in a Crowd: Children of Morta

Help crowdfund a return to the glory days of 2D gaming

Meet the Bergsons, the valiant family at the heart of a new locally developed fantasy game Children of Morta

For the last month or so, our weekly crowdfunding spotlight has been trained on local films. So how's about we strap on our armor, polish our shield, sharpen that battle axe, and head into a 2D pixel gaming adventure with Children of Morta?

Part old-school point-and-click adventure, part Diablo-style dungeon basher, and a little bit of Gauntlet hack-and-slash, this new game follows the Bergsons of Morta, a tribe who has learned that the family that slays blood bats together, stays together. Players can take control of any of the clan to fight the corrupting evil that has taken over their home.

If you missed the big news this morning, the next game from Austin-based Dead Mage Studio is one of the titles eligible for the Gamers Choice award at the upcoming SXSW Gaming Expo, but there's still a long way to go before they're ready to let players completely loose on the rocky cliffs of Mount Morta.

CoM (as we're going to insist on calling it) will launch for Windows, Mac, and Linux, with distribution via Steam; they're also hoping to get it out for Playstation, X-Box, and Wi-U. With 27 days to go, the team are almost halfway to their goal of $65,000 Kickstarter page. That's where you can back the project, plus you can find out more about this and other Dead Mage games at www.deadmage.com.
