Back to the Future Again
The 'Safety Not Guaranteed' cast talks up time travel

It was only day 2, but SXSW Producer Janet Pierson may have been showing signs of wear when she welcomed the audience to SXSW 2010 before quickly correcting herself. Perhaps it was just the effects of the time-travel theme of Safety Not Guaranteed.
In the Q&A afterward, the increasingly busy Mark Duplass – who would world premiere his latest movie with brother Jay Duplass, The Do-Deca Pentathlon the next night – noted that the film was originally sent to him as a producer before he also signed on as a co-star. The movie “was all there on the page,” he commented, “so my job was to make sure it didn’t turn all Napoleon Dynamite and become a joke.” Asked to name their favorite time-travel movies, Back to the Future was the overwhelming favorite of the assembled cast and crew, which include director Colin Trevorrow, writer Derek Connolly, and stars Aubrey Plaza, Jake Johnson, Karan Soni, and Mark Duplass.
Safety Not Guaranteed screens again Tuesday, 7:30pm, at the SXSatellite venue the Alamo Slaughter. For more red carpet scenes from the premiere, see our photo gallery.
