Things That Go Bump in the Day

aGLIFF gives Austin's LGBTQIA community a moment to shine

Late summer can drag for Austin’s LGBTQIA community. The last streamers from Austin Pride seems infuriatingly far away. And that bedazzled crinoline limply hangs in the closet, languorous as a Tennessee Williams’ play. Nothing seems exciting enough to leave our air-conditioned fortresses. Ennui, ennui…

Far be it for me to kick anyone off the fainting couch, but this weekend the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival (aka Polari, but that's another story altogether) needs some NRG. Executive Producer PJ Raval, Producer Kelsey Coggin and Director Evan Roberts are filming a festival bumper this Saturday at Cheer Up Charlies. The short film will be shown before each of aGLIFF’s 25th anniversary screenings.

Keeping with this year’s theme, A Place for Us, the filmmakers want to see the entire rainbow on display - trans families, leather daddies, log cabiners, drag queens, pagans, queer cowboys, lesbian firefighters, past aGLIFF filmmakers, bisexual dandies, homo retirees, and everyone else that makes the community diverse and strong. Costumes are welcomed but not required. You might even see a Gay Placer or two. Dust off your wizard robe, oil down the latex, and roll around in some glitter. You know you want to.

Besides, you can always TiVo Honey Boo Boo.
