Gays and Unmarrieds Shouldn't Be in the Classroom?
DeMint says no to gay teachers.

This left me wondering if I'd traveled back in time to the 1800s, only to realize I was reading it on the Internetz. Which obviously means that Sen. Jim DeMint is the one with time travel issues, not me. Apparently, the senator from South Carolina believes that gays and unmarried women should not be in the classroom.
I don't have much to add, except … WTF? Well, that and that casting out teachers who identify somewhere on the LGBTQ spectrum or who are shacking up might eliminate a good portion of teachers in the U.S. …Which is just what our kids need, amirite?
The Huffington Post reported this story on Sen. Jim DeMint, who recently spoke to pastors at the "Greater Freedom Rally" in Spartanburg, S.C., appealing to their sense of morality in choosing teachers. Apparently, he's been spouting these ideas since 2004, and he's still at it.
Awesome. I, for one, don't care who my kid's teachers are dating, married to, or partnered with, so long as it's all hunky dory with them. Knowing they have health benefits would also be nice. And I suppose knowing that they really loved teaching would be something, wouldn't it?
