Steve Stockman fires blanks, Steven McCraw calls for investigation, and Steve Thomas lets his flag fly. Ubiquity is on the News Ticker.
• Four men were found guilty of money laundering Thursday in connection with the Zetas drug cartel.
• Bryce Reed, a former EMS volunteer who became one of the faces of the West disaster, was arrested this morning for possession of a destructive device. As of now, authorities are not linking him with the fertilizer plant explosion.
• Today Texas DPS Director Steven McCraw announced a joint Texas Rangers and McLennan County Sheriff criminal investigation into the blast.
• Like a phoenix with one hand on a high-power rifle and one hand on a copy of Statistical Techniques in Business and Economics, the House's campus carry bill has found new wings in the Senate.
• Speaking of guns, Rep. Steve Stockman is going off half-cocked again.
• According to Reddit, Austin has the most page views per capita of any city. Finally it makes sense why Mayor Lee Leffingwell ends Council meetings by saying "nailed it!"
• We were hoping that state Rep. Lance Gooden's anti-drone bill was an attempt to ban Rep. Phil King from speaking on the floor, but it turns out it just regulates unmanned aircraft. Sigh.
• Hardin County Judge Steve Thomas has ruled that it is OK for Kountze High School cheerleaders to display banners quoting Scripture at football games – just like Lot's wife used to do, but we're sure the Kountze squad isn't as stiff.
• State Board of Education member Marty Rowley told the Midland County Republican Women that the board will be reviewing CSCOPE curriculum to ensure that is it "treat(ing) the roles of men and women in a traditional way." For instance, all new lessons about former Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will focus on her legendary love of doing the dishes.
