Shake Shack Opens May 5
Line up now for bragging rights

Stare for a while and you might notice that Austin’s topological map has become a little lopsided. We are not cartographers, but we suspect that has something to do with cultish burger chain Shake Shack opening in the Lamar Union development next week. All those people milling around South Austin has to have some effect on the terrain, right?
The Austin location will be the first Texas outpost of the New York chain, and they seem to be inspired by all the local flavor. The beer selection will be stocked with hometown heroes like Hops & Grain, Independence Brewing Co., Karbach Brewing Co., Real Ale, and Austin Eastciders. There will be an exclusive Hill Country-inspired burger, the Lockhart Link, topped with a Kreuz Market jalapeño cheese sausage.
The shakes get into the act too. The Cold Shot is an homage to Stevie Ray Vaughan, while the Shack Attack – a menu staple at the New York City flagship – will get a hometown twist courtesy of Kiskadee Chocolate. There’s also the Uchi-koncrete, made with a miso hazelnut blondie in collaboration with the namesake restaurants. Five percent of that shake’s sales will even be donated to Austin Pets Alive.
Expect long lines to form well before the restaurant opens its doors at 11am on Tuesday, May 5. In-N-Out Burger, #sorryaboutit.
