Bedside Manner: Anglophilia
"Write about the books on your bedside table," they said. "It'll give a fun insight into the inner workings and literary habits of a Chronicle writer," they said. "Crikey," I replied, "Are you sure that's a good plan?"

Bedside Manner: Mogwai's Travel Reading
As any number of exes will be all too happy to tell you, when I'm not writing about or watching movies, I'm either deep inside a book, graphic novel, magazine, or some other form of printed matter, oblivious, gone, busy-reading-please-be-quiet, or scouring used bookstores for cool book-scores that my dog Mogwai (seen here) can nap upon.

Bedside Manner: Taking It to the Couch

The Wizardly Way
Seems like last weekend's Wizard World Austin Comic Con was enough of a success that the organizers were talking not just about coming back next year, but making the already impressive event much larger. Bedside Manner: Let Freedom Ring
My bedside table is a repository for a weird variety of things. Send me your forgotten guides, your talismans, your unread, your read and read-agains; it is a postage-stamp democracy, especially since the head of state here often doesn't get to decide what to read, hence the backlog you see here.

In the late '90s, Joe Madureira was one of the hottest comic artists on the planet. Seven years ago, he left the industry and moved to Austin to co-found Vigil Games, the creators of Darksiders. The man known as Joe Mad appears today at Wizard World Austin, but we chatted him earlier about how he made the transition from print to electronic publishing.

Hey, It's Art Night Austin!
And that means what, exactly?

Because, c'mon, for fuck's sake, this city has art of one kind or another gushing forth like so much blood from the severed carotid of a raging manticore every single night of the week, right? What makes this so-called 'Art Night Austin' on Friday so remarkably special?

Well, listen:
