Duncan Renaldo, who starred as the Cisco Kid on TV, was born in Romania.

The first men's magazine was called Captain Billy's Whiz Bang and was published in 1919. Published by Wilford Hamilton "Captain Billy" Fawcett, it featured the first pinup pictures of "bombshells." To some it represented the decline of morality and the flaunting of sexual immodesty, while to others it signified an increase in openness.

Researchers at Glasgow University say Scots have more words for snow than the Inuit. There are 421 words, including "snaw," "sneesl," and "skelf."

Popeye's creator E.C. Segar based many of his characters on actual people from his hometown of Chester, Illinois. One such man, Frank "Rocky" Fiegel, was the inspiration for the spinach-eating sailor himself.

Teddy Roosevelt had a pet snake named "Emily Spinach."
