Lab Results Confusing? Treatment Education Fiesta Offered Saturday, Aug. 25
By Bart Loeser, Fri., Aug. 24, 2001
It is important for HIV-positive people, and those with other illnesses, to take an active role in their own healthcare. This means taking care of yourself - proper nutrition, exercise, stress management, etc. - and working with your doctor. It isn't difficult to learn how HIV impacts the body and how to work with your doctor to develop the best strategies for keeping healthy.
This Saturday, Aug. 25, there will be a major HIV educational event and BBQ lunch, sponsored by Orthobiotech, that will make learning about treatment interesting and fun. The "Summer of Strength" program will take place from 10a.m. to 2p.m. at the Canteen at Austin State Hospital, 4100 Guadalupe. The event will offer anemia screenings, chair massages, healthcare and HIV service agency information, a sumptuous BBQ lunch, and lots of giveaways - hats, T-shirts, tote bags, water bottles and watches! - for all those attending. Lunch will be served at 11:30, followed by an educational presentation on "The Numbers Game: Understanding Your Lab Results."
The event is being supported by AIDS Services Austin, HIV Wellness Center, David Powell Clinic, Women Rising Project, ALLGO, and the CARE Unit. The event is open to all interested parties, but because space is limited, RSVP is encouraged. To RSVP confidentially or for questions, call Bart Loeser at 297-3058; or e-mail jbloeser@hotmail.com.
