't's in Our Blood
If George Lucas were really cool, he'd see the connection that his two Star Wars trilogies could have with the fight against leukemia. It could be revealed, for example, that the proper spelling of the name "Luke" in Luke Skywalker is actually "Leuk," and that The Force and its attendant Dark Side are metaphors for the human circulation system and what happens when things get terribly out of balance. And what about those "mitochlorians," the symbiotic microscopic race that dwell within the Jed ... oh, geez, you haven't seen Phantom Menace yet? Sorry! Did we just blow it with a major spoiler? Well, heck. Who needs Lucas anyhow? Some Jedi Knights of the Austin music scene: Tish Hinojosa, Lesli Wood, Nancy Scott, and Christy Claxton will be making those connections -- human connections -- playing for a Benefit Concert & Silent Auction for the Leukemia Society, this Fri, May 28, 7pm at Scholz Bier Garten. Leukemia is still the number-one killer of kids and takes 10 times as many adult lives. 239-1301.
Swing Out Sister
Wow. Six months has just zoooooooooomed by. Know how we know? Because every six months, Project Transitions has a major event. At year's end, there's Holiday Swing, the annual winter black-tie fundraiser for the local AIDS support organization. Then every summer, the Transistors pull on the cowboy boots, sawdust the floor, and line up to line dance at the annual Texas Swing. This year's swing is Fri, Jun 4, 8pm, at Saengerrunde Hall, 1607 San Jacinto, featuring the swingin' tunes of Alvin Crow. Tickets are $20 in advance at Top Drawer Thrift Store, Horsefeathers Hair Salon, and the PT admin office, 7101 Woodrow. The price goes up to $25 at the door. 454-8646.

They intend to finish it all this Saturday. Ideally, they need volunteers to preregister, but if this weekend is out of range, ask 'em about upcoming projects. 472-8788x106.
