Game On Austin

Game On Austin 2014

Thursday, October 23
6-10pm
Empire Control Room & Garage
606 E 7th St.

$3 (kids free)

To the average person, video games might appear to be created in some ethereal internet plane and dropped into stores or onto the web. What they don't realize is there's an established and growing game development scene right here in Austin that is on par with the music and film communities. Presented by The Austin Chronicle and SXSW Gaming, GAME ON AUSTIN invites local individuals and studios to showcase their work to the public. The goal is to give Austinites a chance to interact with art being made around them without the stuffiness of a conference.

In years past Game On Austin has featured popular titles as well as independent developers showing off more casual and experimental games, and this year will be no different. Prepare to Game On.

The gaming will run unabated from 6 to 9pm. After that, local chiptune artists the Mysterious H and MonsterVision take the stage with help from projection artist Vision System to keep the party going until you realize it's a school night. Thanks to TX Chip for helping to wrangle the musical talent.

Entry is $3 for adults and free for kids under 14 if accompanied by an adult. Proceeds benefit The AbleGamers Foundation which brings disabled gamers together and consults with developers to help them design games that can be played by anyone.

RSVP on our Facebook event page and spread the word!

During the event we will have local video game artist, Sara Gross, doing a live, illustrated, choose-your-own-adventure story live on stage. She will get you started, take audience suggestions, and draw up the next panel accordingly. You should be following her on Twitter @twobitart. Want to know more about Gross' work, check out this story we did on her a few months back.
