Macon Blair on the set of I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore with star Melanie Lynskey. The Austin filmmaker has been connected with the upcoming comedy Brothers, starring Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage.

Big news for the ATX film scene, as news has arrived that filmmaker Macon Blair has signed up to write and direct a new, high-profile comedy.

Variety broke the news that the Austin filmmaker has signed on to write and direct Brothers, starring Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage. Details are scarce at the moment, save that Brolin and Dinklage will play, well, brothers. The film will be produced by Brolin Productions, Dinklage’s Estuary Films, and Mad Chance.

Virginia-born actor/director/writer Blair has become a fixture on the Austin film scene, starting in 2014 when he was cast as the lead in emotional comedy Mustang Island. The indie movie was finally released in 2017, which is when the actor turned director swiped the Austin Film Critics Association’s award for best Austin film with I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore. He’d already become instantly recognizable as the star of films by his frequent creative partner, Jeremy Saulnier: revenge drama Blue Ruin, punks-versus-nazis siege thriler Green Room, and Alaskan murder mystery Hold the Dark (which Blair also adapted from the novel by William Giraldi).

Brothers is Blair’s second high-profile project. He’s also been connected with the upcoming reboot of cult favorite The Toxic Avenger.
