Horisont
Odyssey (Rise Above)

Horisont owned Master of Reality and Jailbreak a decade ago, but prog reared up on third disc Time Warriors in 2013 and now Odyssey gives it full exposure. The title track wigs out with multiple time signatures, soaring melodic licks, and a 10-minute run time. The Swedes consistently deviate from mere retro metal, spanning lush vocal harmonies on "Back on the Streets" to the flamenco intro of "Flying" and synthesizer flavoring "Timmarna." Even rockers "Break the Limit" and "The Night Stalker" maintain an epic feel. Advanced melodies carry this memorable compositional set.
