Changes and Transitions

Former Mars Restaurant owners Georgia Coleman and chef Tim Kartiganer finished globetrotting and returned to Austin in July. Tim is working as a private chef
(482-8260) while they develop a bed & breakfast/event facility concept... Pamela Nevarez has given up the world of private chefdom and returned to Heart of Texas Produce (479-8771), selling specialty produce and gourmet products... After a brief summer hiatus, Austin's favorite cooking songwriter, Ruth Ellsworth Carter, is back in the kitchen at EastSide Cafe creating delectable dishes from the garden's bounty and working on the soup installment of its popular cookbook series... Jay McCarthy, former chef for Central Market, has become executive chef and proprietor of a San Antonio restaurant renamed Jay's Mesteña (7959 Broadway at Sunset, 210/822-7733). A well-known culinary world traveler who grew up in Jamaica, McCarthy serves "Caribbean Rim Cuisine" at his new restaurant.
