More Questions Than Answers

RECEIVED Fri., May 2, 2025

Dear Editor,
Your article on Austin city funding for the homeless created more questions than answers ["City Council Contemplates $100 Million Homeless Spending Plan," News, May 2]. How are these programs helping the unhoused in our community? What is PSH? What is being done to create permanent, affordable housing in Austin? What happens when transitional housing benefits run out? What services is the city actually providing to the unhoused?
The 6,000 unhoused Austinites deserve to understand how money spent in their names is actually being used. What those who sleep on Austin streets are experiencing is brutal. They are subjected to violent sweeps that rob them of their ID's, medications and whatever worldly possessions they own.
It is disappointing to read an article that promises answers but delivers only questions. Please give us better information so we can actually assess if the funding we are investing is actually effectively serving the unhoused.
