Dear Editor, Perhaps the governor, the lieutenant governor, and the speaker of the Texas House of Representatives need a math lesson. They have said that the voucher system will not affect the money for public schools. Each public school district receives $6,100 for each student enrolled. If 100,000 of those students leave the public school districts, the districts will have $610,000,000 less money to service their students and that would have a huge effect on the districts' ability to succeed. The parents who are frustrated with their school boards are upset with the wrong people. They should be asking the governor, the lieutenant governor, and the Texas Senate and the Texas House why they have refused to increase the funding for public schools since 2019. Why are government officials willing to give approximately $6,100 for each public school student but approximately $10,000 for each private school student. Our government officials have a duty to properly fund our public schools. The parents should contact their public officials and demand that they do what the state constitution requires them to do.
