Dear Editor,
Great article – loved hearing Susan Hays' perspective! ["
The Austin Chronic: Texas’ Hemp Industry Wants Smarter Regulation. Dan Patrick Wants to Nuke It," Columns, Dec. 27.] I completely agree that banning synthetics is the compromise we need for Texas.
Sid Miller tries to pretend he cares by supporting "compassionate use." As if we're supposed to say, "Thank you so much government for your compassion to let me use a harmless herb." No, thank you.
Also keep in mind that we don't know why the federal government only mentioned Delta 9 THC in the farm bill. Therefore, I hesitate to call intoxicating hemp in Texas "loophole products" because we truly don't know why only Delta 9 was specified. That's some Dan Patrick rhetoric.
In a press release, Dan Patrick said that "retailers exploited the agriculture law to sell life-threatening, unregulated forms of THC to the public." I can't support him blaming this new wave of hemp innovation on law-abiding business owners.
