Cover Complaint

RECEIVED Wed., Jan. 3, 2024

Dear Editor,
Your choice of the last cover of the year was highly disturbing to me as a Jewish woman. On October 7th, Israel experienced a brutal slaughter of 1,200 people. This week The New York Times reported the gruesome and graphic details of the horrific rape, sexual murder, and sexual mutilation of Israeli women and girls. I encourage you to read that story. Israel is the world's only safe haven for Jews, founded with the promise that Jews anywhere in the world can come to Israel to escape persecution and prevent another Holocaust from happening. Israel is home to nearly half of the world's Jewish population.
Haters of Jews in America are pouncing on this war as an opportunity to call for the destruction of Israel and a premature ceasefire, which will enable Hamas to carry out these attacks again and again in the future. There already was a ceasefire between Gaza and Israel, and Hamas violated it on October 7th.
If The Austin Chronicle does not want to run Jews out of Austin and did not intend to make Jews feel they are not welcome in this city, please apologize for publishing your cover under the chicken shit excuse that it's a "compelling photo."
Otherwise just come out and say explicitly that you support violent jihad and the killing of Jews so your advertisers know what kind of publication they're supporting.
