Bet on Bikes

RECEIVED Tue., May 2, 2023

Dear Editor,
Kevin Curtin's piece on bicycling in Austin put a smile on my face as big as ... riding a bike does! [“The Joy of Bicycling in Austin,” Culture, April 21] Thank you for featuring such an expansive love letter to one of the activities that most makes Austin feel like home. I'm so proud of our city for continuing to push forward on active transportation in the face of regressive proposals like the I-35 expansion (yikes!) that create more traffic and choke our city with cars. Austin has a real opportunity to invest in cycling – and walking and dare I say scooter (!) – infrastructure that reflects the investments we've made in density. I am a lifetime Austinite lucky to live close enough to downtown to be car-free. More infrastructure means more opportunities for anyone, from Braker to Slaughter, to go for a ride and bump into two or three or four friends along the way.
Thanks for featuring this great piece on the cover!
Velo on, Kira
