Dear Editor, Less than a day after Fox News urges Perry's pardon, Greg Abbott begins the process. He makes no pretense of considering the evidence and shows no respect for the jury, mouthing the tough-guy "stand your ground" slogan to assert that the aggressive Perry was acting in self-defense. But the jury heard Perry say: "I believe he was going to aim at me. I didn’t want to give him a chance to aim at me." If this state of mind justifies five shots from a .357, where is the stopping point? Abbott also complains that the Travis County DA is “progressive,” as if that should taint the verdict. And if Abbott relies in any way on factual material from Perry's kid-glove treatment by the APD (he wasn't even detained after the shooting), he needs to explain how it survives the evidence heard by the jury. But today Abbott feels no duty to inform the public or honor the legal process. A straight shooter long ago, Abbott is now reduced to following Tucker Carlson's instructions to get his political bread buttered. Greg Abbott, the next Daniel Perry or Kyle Rittenhouse is on you.
