Dear Editor,
    This is a scary moment. The Supreme Court just dismantled abortion rights across America. As a result, 26 states could outlaw abortion, including 13 that have passed “trigger” laws to take effect immediately after the Court overturns Roe v. Wade.
    This news should set off alarm bells for all Americans. Our fundamental freedoms are coming under attack by a hyper-partisan supermajority on the Court. And this could just be the beginning. But there’s a way to fight back, which is why I’m urging Congress to pass the Judiciary Act of 2021.
    The Judiciary Act would rebalance the Supreme Court by adding four new seats, giving us 13 justices in total. It’s just what we need to move away from extremely partisan rulings and restore the legitimacy of the Court – and it’s been done before. In fact, Congress has changed the size of the Supreme Court seven times already in our nation’s history. A recent poll showed that the majority of Americans support expanding the court again now.
    It’s past time for Congress to get on board with this crucial bill.

    Just finished reading your “bands under 25” cover story [“10 Bands Under 25 That Make Me Feel Alive,” Music, June 10]. Props for supporting and showcasing live music. Our music community definitely needs a boost after the financial hardship due to COVID practically wiping out the gig industry. However, as one to call itself a publication with a “progressive view,” how disappointing once again that the most underrepresented demographic of all music, Asian American musicians, were left off your story. There are plenty of Asian-Am musicians under 25 here in Austin, such as Blue Tongue, that’s been playing in the ATX since 2016 fronted by 23 year old Vietnamese American Tre Pham. They play regularly at the Mohawk and Saxon Pub. Shame on y’all for always leaving Asians out because we’re the wrong minority. Here’s a link to the group. Devote a whole cover story to Asian American musicians, you’ll find a dearth of them. Do better. Representation matters. Looking forward to seeing some AAPI folks and not just under “food” section.

    How is this article among the top news in the web site? ["Asian Mail Order Brides," Sponsored Post, June 24] I realize it is a sponsored article, but it honestly does not fit with what the Chronicle has always been about. The article has a lot of misogynistic remarks and assumptions that will likely turn off a lot of your regular readers.

   Associate Publisher Cassidy Frazier replies: I oversee the advertising department and it's my responsibility to make sure such posts never see the light of day. They do not in any way reflect the Austin Chronicle as a company nor the people who work here. We messed up, and we apologize. Going forward, I've put a moratorium on all sponsored content until more strenuous policies are in place to keep such ads from ever being accepted. I've also begun drafting guidance documents for the advertising department and worked individually with account executives to make sure we never have another instance where something like this occurs. We're also holding sensitivity training and conversations cross-departmentally so we can keep learning and do better in the future. I appreciate all the readers who spoke up.
