Never Enough

RECEIVED Mon., June 6, 2022

Dear Editor,
As a Texan I appreciate your in depth coverage of the Uvalde shooting and urge the Biden administration and Congress to give the matter its undivided attention.
The bright future of Texas has now grown dimmer with the murder of 21 people in Uvalde, Texas. Innocent people ripped away from earth in the most horrific way possible, failed by the nation who swore to protect them. Children, our posterity. Uvalde and Texas will never be the same, and it shouldn't be.
I was proud when Texas Senator John Cornyn and Senator Chris Murphy formed the duo that was able to pass, with bipartisan support, the National Instant Criminal Background Check Improvement Act of 2019. On the first anniversary of this bill becoming law Senator Cornyn stated that introducing legislation, “became a big step towards preventing another tragedy.” Sadly it is evident that more must be done to fully address this issue.
I respectfully urge Senator John Cornyn to once again work with Senator Chris Murphy, to take gun violence prevention to the next level and pass the Universal Background Check Bill. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. Roundtables are not enough. They were never enough.
