On Watch

RECEIVED Mon., April 12, 2021

Dear Editor,
The “modern” Texas Republican Party (TRP) preaches, nay demands, responsibility and accountability. The modern TRP has been “on watch” (a phrase that means that someone or some group is responsible for paying attention to something, usually something involving danger to people) in the state of Texas for 34 years. So, let’s do a logic exercise re: the 2021 failure of the Texas power grid that caused death and misery to hundreds of thousands of Texas residents, including children and senior citizens.
The modern TRP has been on watch in Texas since 1979, with the exception of 1983-1987 and 1991-1995 (8 years). ERCOT was formed in 1970. I’m going to let you all do the math and figure out for yourselves who failed to be on watch for the safety of Texas citizens for a large chunk of time and who should take responsibility for the results of the failed watch. By the way, you all might want to check out the history of the “Democratic" Party in the state of Texas starting in 1866.
