Dear Editor, The U.S. and the European Union both faced an almost identical level of COVID-19 cases at one point this spring. The E.U. was able to flatten the curve, and they now enjoy a bit more of what we call "normalcy". The United States, unfortunately, went in the opposite direction and very few states are, even now, reporting fewer cases. This crisis continues to grow. The citizens of the USA didn't follow the guidelines of the Center for Disease Control and are now paying the price. Why proper health precautions and procedures were politicized and/or ignored, well, let's not get into that. But, the European Union did have 2 advantages the U.S. did not in fighting this virus. One was a populace which heeded govt. health directives. The second, and most important, was universal health care. Did you see on TV any lines of traffic stretching for miles as Parisians waited for hours to get tested? I didn't either.
