Dear Editor,
The action taken by Travis County commissioners to give themselves huge salary increases for the second year in a row is not only arrogant but bordering on larceny [“
Travis County Leaders Give Themselves Raises,” Daily News, July 31]. Whining about needing more money is not why you run for elected office. You know what the salary is in advance, so if you can’t afford to take the job, don’t run.
The action shows the only interest these commissioners have is self-interest.
I live in the town of Pflugerville (Precinct 1) and I can assure you that there will be serious competition for that seat next year. This selfish, outrageous behavior by elected officials is unacceptable. We can and will change it at the ballot box.
We don’t pay our hard-earned tax dollars to assure politicians a comfortable living. They are supposed to be public servants working for us, not us working to support them.
