Freedom Under Attack

Dear Editor,
"Red flag" laws, or should we call them false flag laws, continue the attack on our freedoms! ["Gun Control? In Texas?" News, July 20.] Due process, one of the very foundations of our freedom, has been under attack for years (civil asset forfeiture laws allow the police to steal your property without even charging you with a crime!) and these laws accelerate that attack. These unconstitutional and immoral laws give the government, whether state or local or federal, much more power and the cost to the citizens is much less freedom! This is much more than a Second Amendment issue, although this basic human right must be protected vigorously!
Article 1, Section 9 and 10 of the Texas Constitution and the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly state the level of suspicion to confiscate property is PROBABLE CAUSE. These laws don’t even come close to that level.
Section 10 of the Texas Constitution and the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. constitution guarantee the citizens of this state and this country DUE PROCESS! Again, this is bypassed under these laws.
Red flag laws destroy OUR basic protections of unreasonable seizures and due process!
So even though these red flag laws are falsely stated to make us safer by being able to “predict” evil, they are often based on unreliable and unproven or even retaliatory information, so they serve only to undermine due process.
All citizens of Texas and the United States must stand against these laws and demand our representatives, senators, the governor, and the president (yes, even President Trump has come out in favor of these unconstitutional acts); do not enact these immoral and unconstitutional laws. We must remind the elected officials they took an oath to defend and protect the constitutions and hold them to that oath.
Write, call, fax, and email your representative TODAY, your freedom is under attack!
