We Must Stand Up

Regarding “Senate Speeds Through Anti-Choice Bills” [Daily News, July 25]:
When are our lawmakers going to realize that the only way to prevent abortions from taking place is to make preventive care more accessible and affordable?
Planned Parenthood, as stated in the article, provides women with the proper resources to take control of their reproductive lives and have the power to decide when they are ready to get pregnant, if they wish. Unfortunately, not all women have resources like the ones Planned Parenthood provides in order to determine for themselves when the right time to have a family would be for them individually.
Even more unfortunately is when women do not have access to affordable preventive care and are forced to have intercourse without consent and therefore, if SB 8 were to pass, have no other choice but to give birth in result of an involuntary situation no one should ever have to live through.
What banning insurance, or any other form of financial assistance, from aiding in covering an abortion is undoubtedly doing is enhancing the stigmatization of women getting an abortion, but also allowing rape culture to thrive through the state of Texas by not creating further repercussions for those committing these horrendous crimes while burdening and blaming the women who had no other option.
It is unacceptable for us to allow our sisters to continue to be sodomized and ridiculed for not having control of what happens with their own bodies and to stand by while our lawmakers are creating a breeding ground for further crimes. We must stand up; we must protect our sisters from further harm.
